Monthly EPF and ETF contributions on any salary, with a rough projection of your EPF balance.

Enter your monthly total earnings to see how much goes into the EPF and ETF each month, what comes out of your pay, and what the employer pays on top. Then project your EPF balance over the years with a pay rise and an interest rate of your own choosing.

The employee pays 8 per cent of total earnings to the EPF, and the employer pays 12 per cent, so 20 per cent of your earnings goes into your EPF account each month. The employer alone pays 3 per cent of total earnings to the ETF; it is not taken from your pay. The ETF Act sets the 3 per cent and requires payment by the last day of the following month.

Which allowances count as total earnings is for the Department of Labour and the EPF department of the Central Bank to say, so the calculator asks for the amount your own contributions are worked out on. Your payslip shows it.

The EPF declares an interest rate each year; under the Act it is fixed by the Monetary Board. Nobody can know it in advance, so the projection uses the rate you type in and is only a guide: interest is added monthly at one twelfth of that rate.

EPF and ETF rates on total earnings:
| Fund | Employee | Employer |
| --- | --- | --- |
| EPF (Employees' Provident Fund) | 8% | 12% |
| ETF (Employees' Trust Fund) | none | 3% |

Q: Is the ETF taken from my salary?
A: No. The ETF contribution of 3 per cent is paid by the employer alone.

Q: How much goes into my EPF account in total?
A: 20 per cent of your total earnings each month: 8 per cent from you and 12 per cent from your employer.

Q: When must the contributions be paid?
A: The ETF Act requires payment on or before the last day of the month after the one the earnings were for. The EPF follows the same monthly cycle.

Q: What interest will my EPF earn?
A: Nobody knows in advance. The rate is declared each year, and under the Act it is fixed by the Monetary Board. The projection uses a rate you enter and is not a forecast.

Q: Do overtime and bonuses count as total earnings?
A: Payroll guides disagree, and the answer depends on the allowance and how your employer pays it. Use the figure on your payslip that your EPF is worked out on, or ask your employer or the Department of Labour.

Q: Does this replace a gratuity?
A: No. Gratuity is a separate payment by the employer when service ends. See the gratuity calculator.
