Cut-off marks for the 302 schools on the Ministry of Education's latest Grade 6 list, Sinhala and Tamil medium, with a school finder, the application and appeals timeline, and how the table was checked.

The Ministry of Education's school-by-school Grade 6 cut-off marks for the 302 schools on its latest list, Sinhala and Tamil medium. A school finder, the steps from scholarship result to appeal with the official links, and a plain account of how this table was checked.

Two different cut-offs matter for Grade 6. The Department of Examinations sets a district cut-off for each district and medium when it releases the scholarship results. The Ministry of Education later publishes a separate list that gives a cut-off mark for each named school, in Sinhala and Tamil medium. This page is about that second list. The two are far apart at the top: for the 2025 examination the district cut-offs ran from 127 to 140, while the school list runs up to 176.

Use the school finder to search by name or place, or filter by medium and by boys', girls' or mixed schools, then compare a child's mark with the school's mark and with the district cut-off on the Grade 5 scholarship page. The full table below the finder holds the same rows as plain text, sorted from the highest mark down within each medium. The scan we read is grouped differently: boys', girls' and mixed schools are separate lists within each medium, each running from its highest mark down. A school can appear twice, once in each medium, with a different mark.

These rows were not typed from the Ministry's document. They were read from the table on a third-party website (induwara.lk), which says it transcribed the Ministry's release and checked it page by page. The only copy of the Ministry's list we could read is a scanned image PDF on another third-party site (tamilguru.lk). Newswire's 21 November 2025 article links a ten-page copy of the same list on its own site (ads.newswire.lk), which we did not use for the comparisons below. The Ministry's own website did not open from our server, so we have not seen the file as the Ministry publishes it. Two comparisons were made with that scan. Earlier, six well-known Sinhala-medium schools and the number of boys', girls' and mixed schools in each medium matched our own reading of it. On 12 October 2026 the cut-off marks in each of the scan's six sub-lists were compared, in order, with the same sub-list of this table and matched. That covers marks and their order, not school by school: school names and places were checked against the scan for only a handful of schools, so not every row has been individually checked against the Ministry's document. Nobody at the Ministry has verified this table.

When a new list is published, new marks are loaded only if two independent transcriptions agree on school, place, medium and mark. Rows where they disagree are held back until a person settles them against the scan. This page then shows how the highest-marked schools moved between the two lists.

What this page does not cover: admission categories and quotas. A new circular for Grade 6 admissions was reported on 14 October 2025, but its text could not be read, so nothing here describes who is admitted under which category.

Reading the table:
| Column | What it means |
| --- | --- |
| School | The school's name. The same name can recur in different places, and a school can appear once in each medium. |
| Cut-off | The mark, out of 200, shown for that school and medium on the list. The table is sorted from the highest mark down within each medium. |
| Place (address on the list) | The place printed beside the school on the list, such as Colombo 07 or Kandy. The Tamil-medium scan heads this column 'Address'. We do not say it is the school's education zone. |
| Category | Boys', girls' or mixed. The scan we read keeps these as three separate lists within each medium; this table merges them into one list sorted by mark. |
| Cycle | Which examination and admission year the mark belongs to. |
| How checked | The marks were compared with the scan as a list; see the note above the table. Not checked school by school, and not verified by the Ministry. |

Q: What are Grade 6 school cut-off marks?
A: A cut-off mark printed by the Ministry of Education for a named school and medium, on a list published after the scholarship results. It is a different number from the district cut-off that the Department of Examinations sets for each district and medium. We have not found a Ministry description of how each school's mark is set, so this page does not explain it.

Q: When will the Grade 6 school list for 2027 entry be published?
A: No date has been announced, as far as the news reports we found show (checked 12 October 2026; the Ministry's own website could not be opened from our server). The last three lists came 78, 50 and 79 days after the scholarship results. Counting the same 50 to 79 days from the 2 September 2026 results gives 22 October to 20 November 2026. That is arithmetic on earlier years, not an announcement, and the 2027 entry process starts with applications through principals, so the order of events may differ.

Q: Is this the list for children starting Grade 6 in 2027?
A: No. The table holds the list for 2026 entry, from the 2025 examination, published on 21 November 2025. The list for 2027 entry, from the 2026 examination, has not been published. The Cycle column on every row says which list it comes from.

Q: Who applies for Grade 6 admission in 2027 entry?
A: On 3 September 2026 the Ministry said applications will be submitted online through school principals, with dates and instructions to follow. Parents are told to wait for those instructions. In earlier cycles parents or guardians submitted the appeals; nothing has been announced about who will appeal for 2027 entry.

Q: Where do I check which school my child was allocated?
A: On the Ministry's G6 admission system at g6application.moe.gov.lk. It was named for the placement check when the 2026 entry list came out, and it also takes appeals.

Q: My child cleared the district cut-off. Is a school place guaranteed?
A: No. The Ministry runs appeal rounds for children who qualified but were not allocated a school, which would not be needed if qualifying guaranteed a place.

Q: How do appeals work?
A: Online only, with up to three schools named; the reports of earlier rounds say the parent or guardian submits it. The rounds have opened on different dates each cycle: 9 to 30 April 2025 and 3 to 17 July 2025 (one outlet) for 2025 entry, and January 2026 (closing 25 January) and 8 to 29 May 2026 for 2026 entry. Believe only the Ministry's own notices for the dates of the next round.

Q: Is there an English-medium list?
A: Not in the copy of the Ministry's list we could read, which has only a Sinhala-medium section and a Tamil-medium section, each divided into boys', girls' and mixed schools. We have not found a Ministry statement on whether another list exists.

Q: Are these all the national schools?
A: We do not know. The copy of the Ministry's list we could read does not call its schools national schools and does not say it covers every school that admits Grade 6 children, so this page calls it the 302 schools on the list and claims nothing more.

Q: How accurate is this table?
A: The rows were read from a third-party website's table (induwara.lk), not typed from the Ministry's document. On 12 October 2026 the cut-off marks in each of the scan's six sub-lists were compared, in order, with the table and matched; school names and places were checked against the scan for only a handful of schools. So not every row has been individually checked against the Ministry's document, and nobody at the Ministry has verified the table. If a row differs from the Ministry's document, tell us and we will correct it.

Q: Do the 2026 admission circulars for Grades 2 to 11 apply to Grade 6?
A: According to Newswire (31 March 2026), no: the circulars approved that day for admissions from Grade 2 to Grade 11 exclude Grades 5 and 6. We have not read the circulars themselves.
