Report an error

If something on a blog post or a reference-data page is wrong, write to [email protected] with the page address and what is wrong. Blog posts also have a "Report an error" link at the end of the text. How the blog is made is described on the newsroom page.

This log is kept by hand by the site owner. It began on 12 October 2026, and the earlier entries were written then from the site's change history. Errors in blog articles published before that date were not tracked and are not covered. No correction to an individual blog article has been logged yet. Changes the AI writer makes to its own articles are not logged here. If the AI writer changes the title, summary, text, questions or sources after publication, the article shows an Updated date. The writer is instructed to add a dated Update section for new developments; nothing checks that one is present. An entry marked "Note" records a choice between disagreeing sources or a deliberate fix to a source's spelling, not a published mistake.

Blog posts now say who writes them

    What it said
Blog posts named Hirantha Sandaruwan Lakshan as the author in their structured data and showed no byline, although they are written by an AI language model.
    What it says now
Every post written by the AI carries the byline "hirantha.me Newsroom (AI-generated)", a short note saying it was written by an AI language model and that no person reviews it before it is published, and a link to report an error. Structured data names the newsroom, not a person, as the author. How the newsroom works is described at /about/newsroom.
    Based on
Internal SEO review of the blog, October 2026, which found the mismatch.

Dataset licence removed from the cut-off pages

    What it said
The structured data for the university and Grade 5 cut-off datasets gave the home pages of the University Grants Commission and the Department of Examinations as the licence.
    What it says now
No licence is stated. Those addresses are organisation home pages, not licences, so the property was removed rather than left to suggest permission nobody gave.
    Based on
Site code review; the change is commit c0a681e in the site repository, 12 October 2026.

Grade 5 cut-off, Ampara, Tamil medium, 2025: sources disagreed

    What it said
Of three transcriptions of the Department of Examinations' 2025 district sheet (published as an image), one gave 131 for Ampara in Tamil medium and two gave 132.
    What it says now
The page shows 132, the value two of the three agree on. It has shown 132 since the Grade 5 data was first added to the site.
    Based on
Comment in the Grade 5 data file, which lists the transcriptions compared.
  4. Note

University spelling normalised in the cut-off table

    What it said
The UGC's source PDF writes one university as "University of Jayewardenepura", without "Sri", in a single course. Left as it is, one university would appear as two in every filter.
    What it says now
The table uses "University of Sri Jayewardenepura" throughout. This is a deliberate fix to the source's spelling, not a figure that changed.
    Based on
Comment on the institution fixes in the cut-off build script.
