What this section is

How a dataset is made.

  1. 01

    Copied

Taken from the official list, number for number.

  2. 02

    Checked

Checked by script and against a second copy before it goes live.

  3. 03

    One data file

The search tool and the tables use the same data, so they always match.

  4. 04

    Fixed in one place

A correction updates the tool, the tables and the totals together.

Caveats

A few figures come from news reports or other websites, not an official list: the Grade 6 school list (from another website, only partly checked against the Ministry's scan), the approximate 2026 Grade 5 qualified count, the 2025 A/L statistics and some A/L dates. Those pages say so next to the figure. The Grade 6 page also estimates when the next school list may come out, from past years; it is not an announcement. Nothing else here is a forecast. A cut-off is the lowest mark that got in last time. Next year's can go up or down.

Reading the numbers

Z-score

Universities in Sri Lanka select students by Z-score: your result compared with everyone who sat the same subjects that year. The table shows the lowest Z-score that got into each course from each district.

NQC

No Qualified Candidates. It is not a Z-score of zero. In the 2025/2026 table, 1,026 of the 6,500 district cells are NQC, usually because the places were already taken or nobody from that district met the entry rules.

Cut-off, not pass mark

Each district and medium has its own Grade 5 Scholarship cut-off, out of 200. Reaching it means the bursary and a chance at a popular school. It is much higher than the pass mark in the official statistics, so passing does not mean you made the cut-off.

Sources and corrections

The university figures come from the University Grants Commission's published minimum Z-score table, and the Grade 5 Scholarship figures from the Department of Examinations. Each dataset page links to the official documents it was built from. This site is not affiliated with either organisation and is not the place to check an individual result.

If a number here does not match the official document, please say so at [email protected] and say which page and which cell.
