PNG to JPG Converter - Free, No Upload

Convert a PNG image to JPG entirely in your browser. Transparent areas are filled white automatically, so the result never comes out with a black background like it does in some converters.

How it works

The PNG is decoded and drawn to an off-screen canvas with a white background layer underneath, then re-encoded as JPEG at the quality level you choose.

JPEG doesn't support transparency, so any transparent or semi-transparent pixel in the source is composited onto white before encoding rather than turning black or being dropped.

PNG is lossless and JPEG is lossy - expect a noticeably smaller file, with the tradeoff of some fine detail loss at lower quality settings.

Worked examples

A screenshot for a document

PNG screenshots are often larger than needed for a Word doc or slide - converting to JPG at a high quality setting shrinks it with barely visible loss.

A logo with a transparent background

Converting to JPG fills the transparent area white, which is usually what you want when the destination doesn't support transparency, like a printed flyer.

Batch converting a folder of PNGs

Drop in several PNG files at once and convert them all to JPG in one pass.

Frequently asked questions

Will the transparent background turn black?

No - it's filled white automatically, which is the expected result for JPEG since the format has no transparency channel.

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No, the conversion happens entirely in your browser tab.

Can I convert more than one PNG at once?

Yes, drop in as many as you like and they convert as a batch.

Will the quality setting affect the result?

Yes - JPEG is lossy, so a lower quality setting produces a smaller file at the cost of some visible detail loss on close inspection.

Can I also resize the image while converting?

Yes, set a max dimension before converting to cap the longest side.

How much smaller will the JPG be?

For photographs, often 80-90% smaller. For screenshots and graphics the saving is smaller and the quality cost more visible, since JPEG handles flat colour and text poorly.

Will text and sharp edges look worse?

Somewhat, yes. JPEG compression produces soft halos around hard edges, which is most noticeable on screenshots and line art. Keep those as PNG or convert to WebP instead.

Does it keep the image dimensions?

Yes, unless you set a maximum size. Only the encoding changes.

Does this work on my phone?

Yes - it runs in your phone's browser exactly like on a computer, with no app to install.
