Remove Image Background - Free, No Upload
Cut a subject out of a photo and download a transparent PNG.

About this tool
A small AI model runs entirely in your browser - your photo is never uploaded anywhere, and it works without an internet connection once the page and model have loaded once.
How it works
The photo is decoded and resized to the model's fixed 320x320 input in a canvas, entirely on your device.
A U^2-Netp segmentation model (running via WebAssembly) predicts which pixels belong to the foreground.
That mask is scaled back to the original resolution and used as the alpha channel of a downloadable PNG.
Worked examples
Product photos for a listing
Drop a phone photo of an item shot against a cluttered desk or floor, and get back a transparent cutout ready to place on a white or branded background.
Headshots for a team page
Cut a person out from behind any background so every photo on a page looks like it was shot in front of the same backdrop.
Stickers and overlays
Isolate a subject to reuse in a design tool, presentation slide, or social post, without touching a paid design app.
Frequently asked questions
Does my photo get uploaded anywhere?
No. The segmentation model downloads once (a few megabytes) and then runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. The image itself never leaves your device.
Why does the first photo take longer than the next one?
The first run downloads and initializes the model. Your browser caches it, so later photos - even after closing the tab - process much faster.
What kinds of photos work best?
Photos with a single clear subject against a reasonably distinct background work best - people, products, and animals. Busy scenes with several overlapping subjects are harder for any background-removal model, free or paid.
What file do I get back?
A PNG with a transparent background, at the same resolution as the photo you uploaded.
Is there a limit on image size?
Very large images take longer because the result is composited at full resolution, but the model itself always works at a fixed small size internally, so detection speed doesn't change with your image.
Can I put a new background behind the cutout?
Not here - you get a transparent PNG, which you can drop onto any background in a design tool, a slide deck, or a document.
Why are the edges of hair or fur imperfect?
Fine strands are the hardest case for any automatic cutout, and this runs a small model built to work on your device rather than a large one on a server. Solid-edged subjects come out much cleaner.
Does it work offline?
After the first run, yes. The model is cached by your browser, and nothing about the process needs a network connection once it's downloaded.
