About this tool
The minimum normal bus fare went from Rs. 30 to Rs. 34. It covers all 350 stages of normal, semi-luxury and luxury (AC) services and shows the same stage on each. Nothing you type leaves your browser.
How it works
Ordinary bus fares in Sri Lanka are set per fare stage: the longer the journey, the higher the stage, and the National Transport Commission publishes a chart with the fare for every stage from 1 to 350. There is one chart each for normal, semi-luxury and luxury buses, and each chart lists the fare before the revision and the new fare.
Most people know what they used to pay, not the stage number, so the calculator finds the stage whose old fare matches what you type and gives its new fare. A journey that cost Rs. 116 on a normal bus is stage 10 and now costs Rs. 131. If no stage charged exactly your old amount, it shows the stages either side.
The rise is not the same percentage everywhere. On normal buses the first stage went up 13.3% (Rs. 30 to Rs. 34), stage 50 went up 11.8% and stage 100 went up 18.6%. Semi-luxury and luxury fares rose more at longer stages.
The charts were published as drawings, not text, so they were typed in twice, independently, and the two copies were compared on all 2,100 numbers. Expressway buses and some long-distance routes have their own full-route fares, which the NTC publishes separately and this calculator does not cover.

Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum bus fare in Sri Lanka now?
Rs. 34 on a normal bus from 00.01 on 6 July 2026, up from Rs. 30. The first stage is Rs. 51 on a semi-luxury bus and Rs. 66 on a luxury bus.
How do I find my new bus fare?
Type what you paid for the same journey before 6 July 2026 and choose the type of bus. The calculator finds that fare stage in the NTC chart and gives the new fare: Rs. 116 on a normal bus becomes Rs. 131.
What is a fare stage?
A step in the NTC's fare chart. Each journey is charged at a stage according to its length, from stage 1 (the minimum fare) to stage 350. The conductor or the NTC's route fare lists give the stage for a journey.
Does it cover expressway and AC buses?
It covers luxury (AC) services on ordinary routes. Expressway buses and some inter-provincial routes have their own full-route fares, which the NTC publishes as separate lists.
What can I do if I am overcharged?
Note the bus number, route and time and complain to the National Transport Commission on its public complaints line, 1955.
When do bus fares change?
The NTC's annual bus fare revision takes effect in July. This page uses the revision effective from 00.01 on 6 July 2026; if fares change again, the date on this page tells you which chart it follows.
