About this tool

The fees come from Gazette Extraordinary No. 2467/49 of 17 December 2025 for the Southern, Outer Circular and Colombo-Katunayake expressways, and No. 2329/17 of 24 April 2023 for the Central Expressway. Nothing you choose leaves your browser.

How it works

Toll on Sri Lanka's expressways is a fixed user fee for each pair of interchanges, set by regulations under the National Thoroughfares Act and published in the Gazette. The Southern (E01), Outer Circular (E02) and Colombo-Katunayake (E03) expressways share one table that runs from Katunayake to Hambantota Gate, so a trip from Katunayake to Matara pays one fee, not one per expressway.

The gazette sets three vehicle categories. Category 1 is a vehicle with two axles and four wheels, or a dual purpose vehicle with two axles and six wheels: cars, vans, jeeps and most pickups. Category 2 is a vehicle with two axles and six wheels. Category 3 is any vehicle with more than two axles. The fee is the same in both directions.

Some pairs have no fee because the interchange only works in one direction. The gazette marks Kotalawala to anything north of it, Kapuduwa to anything south of it, and Bedigama to anything south of it as not functional, and the calculator says so instead of inventing a fee.

The tables were typed in from the RDA's published copies twice, independently, and the two copies were compared cell by cell. Every fee on this page comes from those tables. A new gazette replaces them, so check the gazette date shown with the result; the toll booth's charge is final.

Frequently asked questions

How much is the toll from Kottawa to Galle?

Rs. 500 one way for a car or van (Category 1) from Kottawa to Pinnaduwa, the Galle exit. It is Rs. 900 for a Category 2 vehicle and Rs. 1,500 for Category 3.

How much is the highway fee from Kottawa to Matara?

Rs. 650 one way for Category 1 to Godagama - Palatuwa, the Matara exit, Rs. 1,150 for Category 2 and Rs. 1,950 for Category 3.

Which category is my vehicle?

Category 1 is a vehicle with two axles and four wheels, or a dual purpose vehicle with two axles and six wheels. Category 2 has two axles and six wheels. Category 3 has more than two axles. Most cars, vans and jeeps are Category 1.

Do I pay separately for the Katunayake, Outer Circular and Southern expressways?

No. The 2025 gazette has one table from Katunayake to Hambantota Gate, so a trip that uses all three pays the single fee for its entry and exit. Katunayake to Hambantota Gate is Rs. 1,300 for Category 1.

Why does the calculator say a pair is not connected?

Because the gazette marks it not functional: some interchanges, such as Kotalawala, Kapuduwa and Bedigama, only let you travel in one direction, so there is no fee for the other.

Is the toll the same both ways?

Yes. The gazette's table gives one fee for each pair of interchanges, whichever way you drive. A return trip is twice the one-way fee.

Are these the current rates?

They are the rates in Gazette Extraordinary No. 2467/49 of 17 December 2025 (Southern, Outer Circular and Katunayake) and No. 2329/17 of 24 April 2023 (Central), the tables the RDA publishes. A new gazette would replace them; the charge at the booth is final.
