Free Invoice Generator - Print or Save as PDF, Nothing Uploaded

Fill in your details, the client's details and your line items, and the invoice builds itself as you type. Totals are worked out in exact whole units of the currency, so the lines always add up.

About this tool

Print it or save it as a PDF from your browser's print dialog, or download it as one HTML file. Nothing is uploaded, and nothing is saved unless you switch saving on.

How it works

Every amount is kept as a whole number of the currency's smallest unit (cents, or whole yen) and worked out with exact integer arithmetic, never floating point. Each line is quantity times unit price, rounded once to the smallest unit, half up, so 0.005 becomes 0.01. The rounded lines are added to make the subtotal, which means the figures printed on the invoice always add up. A percentage discount is worked out once on the subtotal, and tax once on the subtotal minus the discount, both rounded half up. Total = subtotal - discount + tax. Some tax systems want tax worked out per line or rounded another way, so check the rule that applies to you.

Tax is optional and has no built-in rates. You type your own tax label, such as VAT, GST or Sales tax, and the rate that applies to you, up to two decimals. This page does not know any country's rates or rules and does not check them. Leave the rate empty for no tax. The currency list changes the symbol only: LKR prints as Rs., and there are no exchange rates. Decimal places follow ISO 4217, which gives two for every listed currency except the Japanese yen, which has none.

The page prints on A4 with a 14 mm margin. While this tool is open, printing the page (the Print or save as PDF button, or Ctrl+P) hides the site header, the form and the footer and prints only the invoice, always as dark text on white whichever colour theme the site is in. Table rows are kept whole across page breaks and the column headings repeat on each page. In the print dialog choose Save as PDF as the printer to get a PDF. Download as HTML makes one self-contained file with no scripts, no links and no outside files, with every piece of text escaped.

The issue date starts as today in Sri Lanka (UTC+5:30, no daylight saving) and the due date 14 days later. Use the next number raises the last run of digits and keeps its width, so INV-0009 becomes INV-0010. A logo (PNG, JPEG, GIF or WebP, up to 1 MB) is checked by its first bytes rather than its file name and is read in your browser. Save drafts in this browser is off by default. When it is on, your invoice is kept in this browser's localStorage and brought back next time, and switching it off deletes it.

An invoice has legal requirements that vary by country, and by whether you are registered for a tax. This is a template, not tax or legal advice. In Sri Lanka, KPMG Sri Lanka's April 2026 note says that section 20 of the Value Added Tax Act No. 14 of 2002 lets the Commissioner General of Inland Revenue prescribe the format of the tax invoice, and that a revised format was gazetted on 27 March 2026 (Gazette No. 2481/22), to apply from 1 July 2026. This page does not produce that format. If you are VAT registered, check the Inland Revenue Department for the format and the dates that apply to you.

Worked examples

A job with a discount and tax

Two lines: 3 x 4,500.00 and 1 x 2,250.50 give a subtotal of 15,750.50. A 10% discount takes off 1,575.05, leaving 14,175.45. Tax at a rate you type, here 10%, comes to 1,417.545, which rounds half up to 1,417.55, so the total is 15,593.00.

Why the printed lines add up

Three lines of 1 x 0.335 each round to 0.34, so the subtotal is 1.02 and the printed lines add up to it. Adding the exact amounts first would give 1.005 and round it to 1.01, one cent less than the lines show. This tool rounds each line first.

The invoice the page opens with

Logo design, 1 x 25,000.00, and Business cards (pack of 500), 2 x 6,500.00 make a subtotal and total of Rs. 38,000.00, issued today in Sri Lanka and due 14 days later. Change any field and the invoice and totals update at once.

An invoice in yen

Choose JPY and there are no decimals. 1.5 x 1,001 is 1,501.5, which rounds to 1,502, and 0.5 x 1 rounds up to 1, so the subtotal is 1,503 yen.

Frequently asked questions

Is my invoice uploaded anywhere?

No. The invoice is built and printed in your browser, with no account and no server involved, and the HTML download is made on your device. The only thing kept is what you choose to keep with Save drafts in this browser, and that stays in this browser.

How do I save an invoice as a PDF?

Press Print or save as PDF, then in the print dialog choose Save as PDF (or Microsoft Print to PDF) as the printer, set the paper to A4 and switch off headers and footers. The wording of the dialog differs between browsers. The page is set up for A4 with a 14 mm margin.

Does it add VAT or other tax for me?

Only if you type a tax rate. There are no built-in rates: you choose the label and the rate, because rates and rules differ by country and change over time. Tax is worked out once on the whole invoice, on the subtotal after the discount.

How are the totals rounded?

Each line is rounded to the smallest unit of the currency, half up, and the rounded lines are added to make the subtotal. A percentage discount and the tax are each worked out once and rounded half up. Total = subtotal - discount + tax. All of it is done in whole units, so there are no floating point errors.

Can I use another currency, and does it convert?

You can print the symbol of LKR, USD, EUR, GBP, INR, AUD, CAD, SGD, AED or JPY. It never converts: there are no exchange rates in this tool, so type your prices in the currency you choose. Decimal places follow ISO 4217.

Will my invoice still be here if I close the page?

Not unless you switch on Save drafts in this browser, which is off by default. When it is on, the draft and logo are kept in this browser only. Clearing site data, or using another browser, device or private window, loses them. Download the HTML or save a PDF for a copy you keep.

Is this a valid tax invoice?

It is a template, not tax or legal advice. What an invoice must contain depends on the country and on whether you are registered for a tax, and this page does not check your invoice against any rules. Check the requirements that apply to you before you send it.

What can I use as a logo?

A PNG, JPEG, GIF or WebP image up to 1 MB. The file is checked by its contents, not its name. SVG is not accepted. The logo is read in your browser and is not uploaded.
