About these dates
When Sri Lanka's national school examinations are held: the G.C.E. O/L, the G.C.E. A/L, the Grade 5 Scholarship and the GIT exam, for 2026 and 2027, and when each recent sitting's results came out. Every date links to the notice or report it comes from, and the Department of Examinations can still change a date.
How the dates work
The Department of Examinations runs these examinations and announces each year's dates well ahead: the 2027 dates were announced in August 2026. It publishes the subject-by-subject timetable and the admission cards closer to each exam, and it can move a date, so check doenets.lk before an exam day.
An examination is named after the year it belongs to, which is not always the year it is held. The 2025 O/L was held 17 to 26 February 2026, and its results came out on 19 June 2026.
How long results take: the Grade 5 Scholarship results came out 24 days after the exam in 2025 and 24 days after it in 2026. The 2025 O/L results took 113 days from the last paper. The 2026 A/L was held 10 August to 5 September 2026; no results date has been announced, and the Commissioner General of Examinations has said the results will be released before the end of 2026.
The calendar feed puts every sitting in Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar and picks up any change on its next refresh. Subscribe by URL to https://hirantha.me/calendars/sri-lanka-exams.ics (in Google Calendar: Other calendars, From URL).
